My B3 came with a working 122, but I wanted to add a PR-40 for more tone and bass. I found a beautiful PR-40 for $100.
So, I think I've hooked it up correctly. Most importantly, it works and sounds great. But if someone who really knows what they're doing could check out my thinking, I'd greatly appreciate it. I did some research, because I know it's been done many times before. Anyway, this is what I came up with.
My B3 has two 5 pin sockets on the bottom connection box. I took it apart and found that the two sockets were wired the same - with jumper wires from the first to the second socket. So, I disconnected the jumper wires from pins one and five on the second socket (the signal pins), and ran two leads from these pins on the second socket up through the wiring tubes and soldered them directly to the two G terminals on the preamp. I left the jumpers in place for pins 2, 3, and 4 thinking this is AC power and ground, and both the 122 and PR-40 need this. I labeled each socket so there's much less of a chance of plugging the units in backwards.
I figured this solution based on an older post by David Anderson (11/17/13) saying the PR-40 does not like DC control voltage from the Leslie connection kit, so a PR-40 should not be plugged directly into a 122 socket.
So, is my wiring correct? Have I isolated the DC control voltage from the PR40 by hooking the signal input directly up to the G terminals?
Thanks again! Love this forum. It's been so much help!
